TUTOR/MENTOR PROGRAM

Contact: Joshua Concepcion  (707) 554-2397 x112

Youth and Family Services of Solano County (YFS) maintain a network of services for youth who are referred by the Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and have dropped out of high school or are at risk for dropping out. We provide academic tutoring, crucial positive connections with caring adults, leadership experiences, and peer support to increase the number of students graduating from high school, receiving a GED, and/or going on to higher education.

The goal of this program is to improve the likelihood that “at risk” students will successfully enter the workforce by addressing the psychosocial barriers that have prevented their full engagement with school, monitoring their academic progress, providing them with feedback that will improve their performance in school, and help them progress toward graduation or GED.

We serve economically disadvantaged youth ages 16-21 who are or can be motivated to get a high school diploma or GED and pursue either higher education or find work. Youth will be referred to WIB, and then to this YFS program, from a variety of target groups, such as at-risk youth, youthful offenders, substance abusers, pregnant and parenting teens, youth with gang-affiliations, and youth in foster care.
